Treatment of Psoriasis: through traditional Indian medicine

Psoriasis medications can cause side effects, so many people seek natural treatments. Ayurvedic medicine is a holistic form of natural medicine that originated in India. It emphasizes herbal remedies, a healthy lifestyle, and balancing the three doshas - vata, pitta, and kapha - to maintain good health. Ayurveda can be applied to most health conditions and is sometimes used together with traditional medical treatments.

Psoriasis is a skin condition that can be treated with Ayurvedic herbal remedies.

Treatments advised for Psoriasis in Ayurveda:

Panchakarma therapy

The main Ayurvedic treatment for psoriasis is Panchakarma therapy. This treatment involves the use of plant-based remedies and dietary changes to detox and purify the body. A vegetarian diet is often recommended.

  1. The Panchakarma treatment process involves a set of five treatments, which include consuming medicated ghee, a form of clarified butter, purging, and vomiting.
  2. It also involves dripping medicated buttermilk on a person's head, covering the entire body in a paste of medicines and mud, and performing medicated enemas.

The success and duration of your treatment will depend on the severity of your psoriasis and your commitment to the treatment.

Some of these remedies include jatamansi, garlic and onions, jasmine flower paste, guggul, neem, turmeric, licorice and raisin of frankincese. These herbs can help to reduce inflammation, purify the blood, boost the immune system, and relieve itching.

Stress can also trigger psoriasis, both physical and emotional. Ayurvedic treatment plans often include meditation and exercise to reduce stress-related psoriasis flare-ups. In addition, some herbal remedies, such as Ashwagandha, have anti-stress properties and are beneficial restorative tonics. Ashwagandha, also known as Indian ginseng, is effective in reducing stress in a study.

It is advised to get the proper past and current history/ complaint of patients to know their condition better and to ease the treatment.
