Mental health and PCOS

We have seen in our previous articles that how PCOS is getting common  in women worldwide and how hormonal changes are affecting their overall health.

The body and the mind are intrinsically linked, and they both constantly affect one another so it can be a struggle for ladies with PCOS deal with these symptoms and they can result in feelings of hopelessness.

It is primarily important to note that both factors external and internal  affect the psychological state of individual. Our environment around be it the job, relationship or even the weather or climate have huge impact on our emotions .Unarguably we can say that small changes in the environment has huge impact on our mental and emotional health and thus is in the case of PCOS.

Let’s find out what actually causes such fluctuations in emotions in case of PCOS.

The body and the mind are  linked together ,hence it is a constant struggle to those who has PCOS .It has been researched that “women with PCOS on average tend to experience mildly elevated anxiety and depression, significantly more than women without PCOS”

How can we control our emotions with PCOS?

Healthy weight

You may have probably came across many people who would suggest you to lose or gain weight to get healthy body and mind. You might also have tried out various diets and exercises from gym to yoga, to burn the fat or to gain healthy weight. However hard you may have tried you certainly fail to get the ideal weight, be it weight gain or loss. Unless the metabolic issue is corrected the weight or the PCOS condition cannot be reversed and hence it will keep affecting your mental status. As with weight the body image is always highlighted which is seriously irritating at times. A doctor consultation is advisable in such condition to correct metabolic defects.

Regular Exercise

Good hormones are also essential to elevatethe mood and regulate other reproductive hormones in the body, undoubtly these hormones are produced more when we move. Regular moderate amount of  exercise be it yoga or gym or just a brisk walk helps a ton.

Mindfulness and meditation

We hardly take out time for self love. Ladies, in the haste to ful  filthe   requirements at work, home, children we completely forget our self. Please take out the time and help yourself relax in the moment. Mindfulness helps release unwanted accumulated stress which has been built up unknowingly. It does help release and equate hormones thus resolving mental stress.

Modification in lifestyle

Your lifestyle should be motivating, not only for others but for yourself as well, meaning you should stick to the circadian rhythm. Early to bed and early to rise makes one healthy and wise, is obviously not a wrong quote. Fixing your times of eating, sleeping and moving helps the hormones eventually.

Find support

A support will always help a patient to recover faster. So is with the PCOS and it’s mental condition. Friends, family or any counsellor who would support your condition will definitely help to unwind the stress and its impact on health really faster.
